Here’s a quick tutorial on how to train your pectorals.
For pecs, there are two major functions:
💪 PEC MAJOR: Connects to your sternum, functions by your arm coming across your body
💪 PEC MINOR: Connects to your clavicular head, functions through shoulder flexion (lifting your arm above your shoulder)
Exercises in which your arm goes across your body, like a dumbbell bench press or a fly, work your pec major.
Exercises in which you tuck your elbows in, which can also be done with a dumbbell bench press or a fly where you come up into shoulder flexion, work your pec minor.
Your arm coming across your body and shoulder flexion are the only two functions of the pectoral muscle. You can apply this to any machine, dumbbell, or barbell you’re using.
Putting yourself on an incline will slightly bias your upper pec, but it will also engage more delt. Your best bet is to use a slight incline and tuck your elbows to hit your upper pec.
